Beauty Routine Before Bed – 10 Must To Do Habits

1. No Makeup, Please

Now, this is serious. I understand that you are a busy lady and have tons of work on your shoulders. But you also have to understand something. Going to bed with makeup on is like sending a cordial invite to skin problems and troubles.

Let me explain to you the science behind this.

Your skin starts repairing itself when you are asleep (1). The skin pores open up and a dermatological patching-up happens. But when you have your facial skin shrouded under thick inches of cosmetics, you are only asking for trouble. This will result in spots and acne breakouts. Gently exfoliating the skin at night will help to remove dirt and impurities that have settled on the skin and pores.

Farzan Mitu, a blogger, indulged in a cleansing oil ritual as part of her nightly skincare routine. These cleansing oils helped in makeup removal and provided a soothing facial massage. She shares in her blog, “Now cleansing oil is not only to be used for removing makeup. It can be used to just cleanse and massage your face. Massaging your face and neck with cleansing oil will also stimulate blood circulation to the face and it’s very important to . You can use extra virgin olive oil or pure coconut oil as cleansing oil too. They will help to remove makeup, dirt or buildups, moisturize and nourish your skin without stealing the natural oil from your skin (i).”

You can try nourishing, natural ingredients like coconut or olive oils to dissolve the makeup and then use a face wash.

2. Hand Cream Is A Must

Beautiful hands can multiply your attractiveness. Hard to believe? Then try this!

Every night before hitting the bed, wash your hands with warm water and a mild soap. Pat dry with a soft towel, and then apply hand cream.

And now comes the most important part. Make sure you use a thick and less greasy hand cream. This will keep your hands moisturized during the night, and when you wake up next morning, you won’t be able to help but fall in love with your hands. Also, hand cream plays a role in reducing skin dryness and roughness (2).

Hence proved, hand cream is a must.

Natural oils and butters like coconut oil, almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and aloe vera gel are good substitutes for a commercial hand cream.

3. Toner Is A Double Must

Toner is to your face what your face is to you. Why? Because toning helps restore the natural pH levels of your skin. This ultimately makes your skin resistant to bacteria and other microorganisms, and also helps in cleansing your skin of dirt and impurities.

Simply apply a little amount of toner on a cotton pad, and gently rub it on your face and neck. Trust me, the next morning you will become even more pretty that you might even feel like kissing yourself.

Add toning to your daily morning skincare routine to further support your skin health and get a smoother, balanced skin.

Witch hazel, rosewater, green tea, mint, and apple cider vinegar are good ingredients you can opt for instead of a commercial toner.

4. Don’t Forget The Eye Cream

Let me tell you something.

If there is anything in this world that has beauty that never wanes, it is a woman’s eyes.

And taking care of such elegance is definitely important, isn’t it? Remove all your eye makeup and apply a moisturizing eye cream before catching some Zzzzs! An eye cream can do a lot good to your eyes; ingredients like peptides in eye creams can moisturize and hydrate your eyes, and also reduce wrinkles and fine lines (3).

Just ensure you use a lightweight eye cream that contains antioxidants, caffeine, peptides and brighteners.

5. Tie Your Hair

It’s always best to sleep with your hair tied. No, this is not my personal opinion. When you sleep with your hair tied into a bun, you can spare yourself the annoyance of tangles and knots in the morning.

Also, hair does contain oils and dirt that can get on your face, thereby resulting in acne breakouts and other issues (4). Now, you wouldn’t want that, would you?

6. Petroleum Jelly For Your Feet

Your feet – something that should be never ignored. They are undeniably a reflection of your personality, and you have to make sure they are immaculate. Always.

Wash your feet with warm water and pat them dry with a soft towel. Apply petroleum jelly on your feet and see them turn soft and beautiful in a matter of days! Petroleum jelly is generally used to prevent skin from drying (5).

7. Brush Your Teeth Every Night

Here comes one of the most important beauty rituals before bed. Beauty is not just a matter of outside, but of inside as well. If your breath doesn’t smell right, getting fashion advice even from Jennifer Lawrence or Paulina Vega wouldn’t make much of a difference.

So make it a point to brush your teeth every night before going to bed, and ensure you do it after a gap of 30 minutes post dinner. Also floss your teeth and rinse your mouth with warm water. One important point to remember is flossing should be done before brushing (6).

8. Start Using Silk Pillowcases

Will you believe even the pillowcases you use can determine your beauty? Well, you have to.

And there are two reasons.

One, silk contains a number of natural proteins and 18 essential amino acids that are beneficial to your skin. And two, unlike cotton pillowcases, silk pillowcases don’t give you those annoying silk-lines or silk-creases on your face.

9. Use Overnight Face Masks

These face masks work wonders on your skin while you sleep. For instance, try a hydrating mask with ingredients like hyaluronic acid for a moisture boost or a vitamin C mask to brighten your skin tone (7), (8).

These masks are packed with ingredients that deeply hydrate, repair, and rejuvenate your skin overnight. Apply a thin layer before bedtime and wake up to smoother, plumper, and more radiant skin. So, don’t miss out on this effortless beauty hack. Your skin will thank you and you will greet the morning with a fresh, glowing face that will make you smile at your reflection.

10. Get A Good Night’s Sleep

My mom says that I used to sleep for over 18 hours a day when I was just born. Given a chance, I would love doing the same even now.

*Just joking*

Anyway, coming to the point, we all know sleep is essential and provides relaxation. There is no doubt lack of sleep can cause dark circles and under-eye bags (9), two of the biggest disasters to anyone’s beauty. So ensure you get about 7 – 8 hours of sleep every night.

Also, make sure to shut down all electronics before you sleep. Mobile phones or television are a big no-no inside your bedroom.

It is important to take care of your skin at night. It is the ideal time to allow your skin to regenerate and repair itself. Your body is not subjected to daytime environmental stresses such as sunshine, pollution, and severe temperatures. Your skin receives a break from the day’s stresses as you sleep. You can incorporate a night cream and a face mask into your skincare routine to provide ultra hydration and rejuvenation to the skin. So make sure you get enough beauty sleep to look your absolute best.

Follow the important tips discussed in the article and incorporate the nine beauty routines before bed to rejuvenate and heal your skin and wake up looking younger and more beautiful.
